Fort Carson Tree Memorial Grove
Fort Carson Army Base
Colorado Springs, CO
The El Paso County Conservation District (EPCCD) proudly announces its newest, most exciting project ever the "Fort Carson Memorial Tree Grove". Board member and president John Bradshaw decided he wanted to do something to show his appreciation for the soldiers fighting in Iraq in Afghanistan. Bradshaw, a retired soldier himself, approached the EPCCD Board about the idea. Upon their hearty approval, he began working with board members, Natural Resources Conservation Service, district conservationist John Valentine, and personnel from Fort Carson Army Base, to design a memorial to recognize these brave soldiers.
Today the project is becoming a reality. A ceremony took place on September 15, 2008 at 10:00am with the public invited to attend. A tree grove is planned for the base - in a prime location that will eventually include a church and a museum. The grove will have 77 trees - representing each conservation district in Colorado. This project is now no longer just a project for EPCCD, it is a project for everyone who would like to honor the soldiers from across the nation for their service and sacrifice for all.
